Ariana Grande Opens Up: Why She Planned to Delay Album Release Until at Least 2025

The “Wicked” actress also disclosed the reason behind her “TBD” tour schedule for her next album, “Eternal Sunshine.”

Ariana Grande did not intend to release a new album. But some inspiration also struck when the strike came.

What was the outcome? Her seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine, will be available on March 8.

“[Making new music now] was not my intention. Making an album wasn’t my intention, she admitted on Monday’s Zach Sang Show. “I really wasn’t interested in releasing any music until after Wicked, not even the full album. I was uncertain about my feelings.

However, after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes halted Wicked’s production, Grande, 30, travelled to New York City and spent a week working with producer Max Martin.

“After our first week together, I continued going to the studio every day by myself, and it just kind of kept happening that way. So I just decided to react and listen to that and I thought maybe it should come out if it’s coming out of me this way,” she said. “It all just kind of started pouring out.” “Perhaps this is how it should be shared.”

After 2020’s Positions, Grande’s first album in three and a half years is Eternal Sunshine. Grande informed Sang that, in the years following the release of Positions, her connection with music has changed, partly because of her role as Glinda in the Wicked movie (the first installment of which will be released on November 27 and the second half a year later).

Through her, I was able to repair a lot of pieces of myself, including my relationship with music and being an artist, which was one of my own particular weirdnesses, she added. “Everything transpired precisely as it was intended to.”

The first single off the album, “Yes, And?” has house music and finds Grande reacting to questions in the public about her appearance, her divorce from ex-husband Dalton Gomez, and her current relationship with Wicked co-star Ethan Slater. Grande released the song in January.

The two-time Grammy winner informed Sang that her plans for touring Eternal Sunshine were “TBD.”

“I’d like performing in shows. She remarked, “I love performing live, I miss performing live, and I really miss my fans.” “I suppose that was a result of where I was at during my last tour, but I had a really difficult time emotionally. I’m eager to reevaluate my connection with shows when I’m ready and see what that entails, just like I am with music.

With the release of Wicked in November, she continued, stating that she has a “very busy” year ahead of her and that any touring she undertook would probably be “a little something.”

She declared, “I really do have the itch.” “I miss performing live and I miss my fans.” However, I also don’t want to let people down, so I’m not ready to make any announcements or get them overly enthusiastic.

Grande released a remix of her song “Yes, And?” earlier this month. However, she also stated that she will not be releasing any more singles before the album’s release, preferring her fans to “experience the album in full this time.”

It’s going to be (and already is) incredibly special, she added. “I look forward to savouring every second of this new era with you all and I sincerely cannot wait for it to be yours!”
