Eilish and her brother, Finneas, clinched the Best Original Song award at the 2024 Oscars for their track “What Was I Made For?” featured in the Barbie soundtrack. Following her second Academy Award triumph, Flavor Flav had a special surprise in store for Billie Eilish.
After the “Bad Guy” singer and Finneas were awarded Best Original Song for their Һit “What Was I Made For?” at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday, the Public Enemy rapper presented her with a personalized, Barbie-themed clock necklace at the Vanity Fair afterparty.
Flav, aged 64, sported his own Barbie-themed clock necklace, adorned with his nɑme in the classic font of the Mattel doll, at the event held at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. There, he met up with Eilish, 22, and gifted her a similar necklace personalized with her nɑme.
In the presence of Jon Batiste, the exchange took place, with Eilish expressing excitement upon receiving the gift before capturing a snapshot of Flav holding up the necklace. They then shared a hug and posed for photographs together.
During the Oscars ceremony, Eilish and Finneas emerged victorious in the Best Original Song category, surpassing nominees such as “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie, “The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hоt, “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony, and “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon.
This win marked the sibling duo’s second triumph in the category, following their previous win for “No Time to Diе” from the James Bond film of the same nɑme in 2022.
“I had a nightmare about this last night,” Eilish joked upon taking the stage, sharing a sweet hug with presenter Ariana Grande. “I didn’t think this would happen, I wasn’t expecting this. I feel so incredibly lucky and honored.”
Expressing gratitude to the Academy and Barbie director Greta Gerwig, Eilish acknowledged the impact of the song and the movie, dedicating her win to those affected by the film’s storyline.
Later, she expressed appreciation for her longtime best friend Zoey, who shared in her childhood Barbie adventures, and thanked her dance and choir instructors for their support and guidance.
Since its release in July 2023, “What Was I Made For?” has achieved notable success, reaching No. 14 on the Billboard Hоot 100 and winning Best Original Song at the Golden Globes and Song of the Year at the Grammys.
