Renowned Hollywood star Jason Momoa has embarked on an extraordinary project, bringing a piece of automotive history into the modern age. The actor, celebrated for his roles in blockbuster films like Aquaman, Game of Thrones, and Dune, has teamed up with Electrogenic to transform his vintage 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom II into a cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV).
Momoa expressed his excitement about the venture, emphasizing the importance of finding the right partner to realize his vision. “I needed a team that would appreciate the storied history of this car while updating its technology,” he remarked.
Enter Electrogenic, a British company renowned for its expertise in converting classic cars into electric vehicles. With a reputation for preserving the essence of vintage automobiles while integrating modern electric powertrains, Electrogenic was the ideal collaborator for Momoa’s ambitious project.
Despite the challenges involved, including the intricate nature of the conversion process, Momoa and the Electrogenic team persevered for 18 months to achieve their goal. The result is a seamless integration of electric power into the iconic Rolls-Royce, maintaining its original charm and character.
The transformation involved replacing the Rolls’ traditional internal combustion engine with a state-of-the-art electric powertrain, comprising 93 kWh of batteries and a custom single-speed direct drive transmission. This setup delivers impressive performance while retaining the car’s classic aesthetics.
Moreover, Electrogenic’s meticulous approach ensured that the conversion was entirely reversible, preserving the integrity of the Phantom II’s heritage. The process also involved updating various components, including the braking system and entertainment features, to meet modern standards.
Momoa’s journey to electrify his Rolls-Royce is documented in his new show, On the Roam, where he explores the world of innovative craftsmanship and meets inspiring individuals from diverse fields.
Steve Drummond, director of Electrogenic, expressed pride in the collaboration and the opportunity to showcase their work alongside Momoa’s creative endeavors. “It’s the perfect way to celebrate this Phantom II, which is now future-proofed for another hundred years of stately motoring,” Drummond concluded.
Momoa’s project exemplifies the intersection of tradition and innovation, breathing new life into a timeless classic and paving the way for sustainable motoring.
