Despite toning down her costume choices recently, Katy Perry couldn’t resist making a statement at the 2013 Met Gala on Monday night.
The 28-year-old singer arrived in a head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana ensemble for the New York City event. The outfit, inspired by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s Fall 2013 ready-to-wear collection, drew inspiration from the golden mosaics of Sicily’s Cathedral of Monreale, providing a re-imagined view of the Catholic Church.
The dress featured intricate hand-sewn mosaic work, with thousands of tiny bugle beads, sequins, and gold threading creating a sparkling effect under the camera flashes. A queen adorned Katy’s torso, capturing attention with its detailed design.
Embracing the theme, Katy sported a cross-encrusted crown atop her jet black, 1940s-styled curled and teased hair. Her makeup, with pale cake foundation and matte burgundy lipstick, resonated with the punk theme of the evening.
The singer completed her look with huge cross chandelier earrings, perfectly replicating the Dolce & Gabbana display from their February runway show. Linda Evangelista, a ’90s supermodel, also arrived in a timeless piece that seemingly drew inspiration from another era, possibly influenced by religious themes.
At 47, Linda wore a Renaissance-style dress with grey tulle covering her entire body, leaving only her sharp collarbones exposed. A delicate headband complemented the careful beading around her neckline, while sparkly rings adorned her fingers.
