During her headline performance at Coachella on Friday night, Lana Del Rey fulfilled fantasies by inviting Billie Eilish onstage to perform two songs together.
The 38-year-old “Summertime Sadness” singer delighted fans by collaborating with the 22-year-old Gen Z sensation in front of 100,000 festival attendees at the renowned music and arts festival in Indio, California.
Their joint performance commenced with Eilish’s 2016 hιt “Ocean Eyes,” followed by a duet rendition of Del Rey’s pop ballad “Video Games” from her album “Born to Dιe” (2012).
Acknowledging Eilish’s immense talent, Del Rey showered her with praise, declaring her as “the voice of our generation” and expressing her gratitude for their collaboration.
Eilish, in response, humorously urged her idol to step aside, which elicited laughter from both.
Later, the “Bad Guy” singer expressed her admiration for Del Rey’s influence on her career and the music industry, proclaiming her as a reason for the existence of many, including herself.
In addition to Eilish’s surprise appearance, Del Rey also brought out Jon Batiste and Jack Antonoff for special performances during her set.
Their onstage collaboration at Coachella follows Del Rey’s interview with Eilish for Interview Magazine last year, during which they discussed navigating online criticism and internet trolls.
Eilish candidly shared her struggles with feeling disliked by others, especially amidst the negativity on platforms like TιkTоk and social media.
Del Rey, on the other hand, praised Eilish’s warmth and resilience, offering advice on dealing with negativity in the public eye.
Reflecting on her impact, Eilish credited Del Rey with revolutionizing the music industry and paving the way for artists like herself.
Del Rey, meanwhile, reminisced about her early experiences in the industry and the challenges she faced, highlighting the evolving perceptions of age and gender in music.
Their conversation underscored the mutual respect and admiration between two generations of musical talent, leaving an indelible mark on both the past and future of the industry.
